What Does the Typical FIRST Team Look Like?

 

Team Make-up...

 

  •  25 students on average (approximately 15 new, 7 first-year, 3 second-year, 2 third-year, 6 girls, 8 racial/ethnic minorities)

  •  Based in public schools in suburban settings

  •  Has participated in FIRST competitions for 3 years

  •  Meets 5 days/week during Design/Build/Test Phase, 2 days/week during Competition, and 2-3 times/month during the off-season

  •  Team Leaders: teachers who have been team leaders for an average of 2 1/2 years.

 

 

Team Resources...

 

  •  Associated with primary sponsor for 3 years

  •  Schools provide classrooms and storage

  •  Corporate sponsors provide machine shops and other resources

  •  Adult participants per team average 3 teachers, 5 engineers, 5 parents, 2 mentors and 2 others

  •  Average annual budget: $27,750
